Predicate Adjectives
Predicate Adjective - A predicate adjective is an adjective that follows a linking verb and describes the subject. Like predicate nominatives, a predicate adjective completes the meaning of a linking verb.

The linking verb in the sentence above is "seemed." The predicate adjective completes the thought of the sentence: "The orchestra seemed what?"
Predicate Adjectives
Here are some linking verbs that precede predicate adjectives. All forms of the verb "to be" can be used to link the subject and the predicate adjective:

am  is   were  be
are  was   being  been

These verbs are also linking verbs:

appear  be   stay  sound
seem  become   remain  smell
look  grow   feel  taste

I am exhausted.   Whitney seems timid.
Martin is quiet.   They remain seated.
We were careful.   The stew smells delicious!
