A sentence has two parts: the subject and the predicate.

Complete and Simple Predicates
Complete Predicate - The complete predicate is the part of the sentence that contains the verb and describes the subject or names the subject's action.

Simple Predicate - The simple predicate is the verb or verbs.
Jason's sister wrote the winning essay.
In the sentence above, the word "wrote" is the simple predicate, or verb. The phrase "wrote the winning essay" is the complete predicate.
