Long Vowels
The following letters are vowels: A, E, I, O, U. Sometimes the letter "Y" acts like a vowel. At least one vowel is found in every English word.
These are the long vowels sounds:
"Y" acts like a vowel in the word "baby." It has a long "e" sound. "Y" has a long "i" sound in the word "fly."

Spelling patterns may help you remember how to spell words with the same long vowel sound. Here are three common long vowel spelling patterns:
1. C-V-C-e, or Consonant-Vowel-Consonant-silent "e"
